IT was most flattering to have my letter in your last issue (833) labelled as "Letter of the Week", even though a mistake in the second paragraph meant that that sentence didn't make a lot of sense!
I have a sneaking suspicion that the fault lay in my handwriting. Typical of someone who tries to maintain some old fashioned habits.
Writing as chairman of Crediton Traffic Action Group, however, on to more serious matters; the turn out and endurance of the supporters of the Valley route shown on Friday and Saturday, September 25 and 26 was splendid.
The exit poll undertaken by some of the same people showed the effect that their efforts had.
The town, district and county councils now have a larger number of people signed up against the Western and Hillside routes than ever voted in favour last year.
In the long-term, all the people of Crediton will have cause to be grateful to an unpaid bunch of volunteers that made a bit of a stand in 2009. It's also much more comfortable than sitting on the fence.
There was a serious mistake however in CTAG's leaflet over the opening times of the consultation that Devon County seemed determined to call an "Exhibition", the leaflet showed times on Saturday that were the times that the Old Town Hall would be available and NOT the times that the exhibition would be open.
As a result, some viewers turned up after closing and a few, very few, were unfairly critical of the staff and officers of Devon County.
This was most unfortunate and CTAG's committee apologies to both would be viewers and the staff that were blamed.
Apart from that blip it all went to show what can be achieved by working together in the cause of the common good.

Editor's note: Sorry, Bill. We thought that what used to be known as a printers' devil disappeared with the advent of computers. The mis-print shows that our devil is still about!
