MANY people delayed journeys or used alternative routes last weekend and at the beginning of this week in anticipation of night-time highways maintenance works on the A377 in Exeter Road, Crediton.

The scheduled works, on the A377 from the Well Parks roundabout in a westerly direction for a distance of 850 metres and also the C310 from Station Cross in a southerly direction for a distance of 100 metres, were due to have been completed by South West Highways Ltd.

One or two night-time closures of the roads were scheduled but the works did not take place.

Jake Hurtley, customer liaison officer, South West Highways, told the "Courier" this week, that the works were unable to take place because they are "weather-dependent".

He added: "We have had to re-schedule the works, which are part of a big programme to fit in with other works and these will now take place between 7pm and 6am on November 21 and 22.

"We are unable to complete the works if it is raining."
