THROUGHOUT 2016 many events were held to raise funds for the Holy Cross Crediton Campaign Roof Appeal which included various talks, a quiz night and a Heritage open day.

The Appeal is Crediton Parish Church’s largest restoration project since the 1880's and has to-date raised £79,618.15.

DARTMOOR TALK

The first fundraiser this year, an illustrated talk “Curious Dartmoor”, will be held on Monday, February 20. Guest speaker Paul Rendell, a well-known Dartmoor guide and writer, will talk about intriguing topics such as letterboxes, strange cut stones, strange natural stones, the Haytor Tramway, the gunpowder factory, Castle Drogo and filming on Dartmoor.

This will take place at the Boniface Centre at 7.30pm and admission is £10, to include supper.

QUIZ AND SUPPER

A quiz and supper evening will be held in the Boniface Centre on Saturday, April 8, starting at 7pm. Teams of up to four members are invited and bookings can be made now by calling Glenda Hills on 01363 773669.

Entry is £8 per person and includes a pasty supper.

BRITISH MUSIC

An illustrated talk on “The History of British Music”, with guest speaker Stewart Raine, will be held on Monday, May 8 in the Boniface Centre at 7.30pm. Admission will be £10 and includes a buffet supper.

HERITAGE OPEN DAY

As part of CredFest 2017 a Heritage Open Day will be held at Holy Cross Church from 12 noon to 4pm on Tuesday, June 20.

This will include audio visual presentations, a chance to see the bells and clock, learn about the challenges of maintaining such a large Grade I Listed building, see English Civil War graffiti, heritage quiz, children’s history trails and more.

BLUE PETER

“My Journey through four decades of Blue Peter” will be the title of an illustrated talk given by Alex Leger on Saturday, July 15.

Alex will tell his audience about locations and filming of the long-running children’s tv programme along with video clips.

This will be held at the Boniface Centre, starting at 7.30pm. Admission is £15 and includes a mixed-platter buffet supper, a raffle and wine bar.

QUIZ AND SUPPER

A second quiz and supper evening will take place in the Boniface Centre on Saturday, September 2 with teams of up to four members sought.

Admission is £8 per person and early bookings are being taken now, by calling Glenda on 01363 773669.

GLASS TALK

Dr Francis Burroughs will talk about “The Wonderful World of Glass” on Monday, October 16. Taking place in the Boniface Centre, at 7.30pm admission will be £10 and includes buffet supper.

TALK BY VET

Emma James, veterinary surgeon at St Boniface Veterinary Clinic in Crediton will talk about “A day in the life of a veterinary surgeon” on Monday, November 6.

Admission will be £10 and includes a buffet supper.
