AFTER cancellation last year, Cheriton Fitzpaine and District Ploughing Association’s 75th Ploughing Match and Produce Show will be held on Sunday, September 19 at Creedy Barton, Shobrooke, by very kind permission of Mrs Sarah Prouse and family.

On show will be a mixture of more traditional ploughs, including some vintage machinery along with the usual modern machinery and also,  hopefully some horse ploughing in action on the field.

The event consists of a ploughing competition where entrants have to plough a designated plot area and they are judged on their skill and finish.

The match normally attracts more than 50 ploughing entries and the winning ploughmen can gain points which can then qualify entry to county and even national competition level events.

On the day the Association also holds a produce and craft show with competition displays, exhibits of cookery, handicraft, flower arranging, garden produce and also a selection of children’s classes.

Association member Sandra Turner, explained: “Our committee is enthusiastic and committed to continuing this long annual tradition of putting on this event and without the support of our sponsors and donations the event would not take place.

“We are hoping to mark this special year by giving all ploughmen and women a little memento to mark our very special year.

“Proceeds from previous matches have enabled us to donate to Devon YFC, ELF, Devon Air Ambulance and FCN.”

The day begins at 10am whereupon the ploughing commences and it is judged through its duration.

The produce and craft competition is judged between 10am and 11.30am after which it will be open to the general public to view.

There are refreshments and ice creams on site but those attending are welcome to take along their own picnic if they wish.

Entry is £2 per adult and children go free. Dogs are allowed on leads to the event and parking is within the field.

There is a ploughing service towards the end of the afternoon, which finishes with the raffle which is held after the cups and prize giving.

All are invited to attend.
