THE Folklore Library and Archive, a registered charity based at Tanners' Yard in Crediton, is starting a new Friday evening social group for anyone interested in local history and heritage as well as folklore and custom more generally.
Folklore Fridays will take place on the last Friday of the month, starting on Friday, March 27, between 7pm and 9pm in Clover's Cafe, 100 High Street, Crediton.
The Folklore Library and Archive are well-known for the events they put on in Crediton recently, including visits by award-winning author Joanne Harris OBE and Spitting Image voice impressionist Steve Nallon.
The first meeting is going to feature a curated exhibition about the rowan in folklore, from the Folklore Library collections, a talk on tree folklore in Devon and the chance to chat with others about what you might like to see at future meetings.
There are already plans for illustrated lectures, author events and film screenings in future months. Alongside that, Clover's will have a full menu of food and drinks available.
Like previous Warm Space events, entry for Folklore Fridays is free, with donations welcome for the charity. People need to book a place in advance to guarantee a space, and this can be done in Crediton Library, or online at bit.ly/flaevents.
Tickets for all other events by the Folklore Library and Archive are on the same website link, including a forthcoming Harp Concert and Afternoon Tea in the Boniface Centre, with Elizabeth-Jane Baldry, in April. There will be more about that in next week's Courier, although tickets can be bought now.
The Folklore Library and Archive's reference library and other collections are open to the public for browsing every Wednesday and Friday between 10am and 4pm in the read courtyard at Tanners' Yard.
