AT the end of the First World War, returning servicemen were promised “a land fit for heroes”.

That included “homes for heroes”, and the massive amount of social housing built in the 1920s.

Julia Neville and Judy Moss will present Building Homes for Heroes in Rural Devon in the 1920s for Crediton Area History and Museum Society (CAHMS) on October 13, exploring if and how that promise was fulfilled across the county.

Both speakers have been closely involved in a major project on Devon in the 1920s, bringing together a mass of fascinating information.

The talk will be at the Boniface Centre. Doors open at 7pm, talk at 7.30pm.

CAHMS members £2, non-members £5. More information at: http://creditonhistory.org.uk/whats-on/2025/homesforheroes.aspx
