CREDITON Arts Centre’s autumn season gets going with The Last Thursday Picture Show on Thursday, September 25, presenting Booksmart.
Booksmart is a story of teenage girls who realise they haven’t had any fun or crazy times while at school so try to cram four years of fun into one night! Only £5, much cheaper than going to the cinema in Exeter and there are puddings on offer too.
Our live performances start on Saturday, October 4, with the Devon-based folk duo Harbottle and Jonas. Their music combines the richness of traditional folk with their own original and powerful songwriting, using concertina, harmonium, cittern, stomp box, acoustic guitar, banjo, and of course their intertwined vocal harmonies. One of the most exciting folk acts around today!
Following this, on Friday, October 10, we are hosting Something Underground’s play Happy Hour about Bernie’s efforts to make his pub child friendly with a party atmosphere. Funny, moving, disturbing, poignant and emotionally satisfying. Fun for everyone.
On October 18, we host the local theatre company Talking Faces, who are bringing us a return performance of their very successful double bill Tongues and Savage/Love, plays by Sam Shepard and Joseph Chaikin. Tongues is a piece about voices, all kinds ofvoices. Savage/Love is a series of short poems, a dance of emotions exploring the spell of love. Hurry as this is nearly sold out.
Our final October offering is another very special music performance “A Night of Glass” by Dan Whithouse with Swedish pianist Gustaf Ljunggren on Thursday, October 23. A musical journey into the heart of glass with multi-instrumental soundscapes. Dan Whitehouse has released 10 albums while supporting acts such as Julian Cope, 10CC, and Eddie Reader. An evening of romanticist folk and much more.
