AT Crediton Hamlets Parish Council's June meeting further discussion took place over the ongoing problem of poor mobile phone reception in the parish. It was pointed out that Vodaphone had carried out a scheme in Newton St Cyres to improve mobile phone reception in the rural part of the parish. It was agreed to ask whether a similar scheme could operate in Crediton Hamlets? The Clerk was asked to report a pothole on the road along Fordton Terrace, Crediton, also a rail broken on Neopardy Bridge and fly tipping on the A377 (near Dunscombe) at Hookway junction, near the pumping station on Yeoford Hill. Cllr George Mortimer had removed the broken concrete from the milk stand at Stairhill Farm which was reported at the April meeting and it was agreed to thank Ivor Leonard for repairing the notice board at Woodland Head. FLOODING Further discussion took place over the ongoing highway problems at Venny Tedburn. There was still a need to renew the "slow" marking on the road etc. Also no further progress had been made on the flooding issues at Hookway although it was understood that the necessary finance was in place. It was agreed to take these matters up with Cllr John Hart, Leader of Devon County Council. Mid Devon District Council was re-evaluating its Community Infrastructure Policy. The Police were concerned over the increase in "Opportunist Crime". Western Power Distribution had sent a Free Parish Council Pack "Helping people to cope during power cuts". The pack included: Analogue telephone (digital cordless phones will not work during a power cut), torch with batteries, powerbank (for charging essential items like mobile phones during a power cut), rechargeable radio, foil blanket, reusable hand warmer and an Information booklet. This pack was entirely free, not a product they were selling, but an example of items that they recommended people keep handy. Western Power Distribution stated it was providing the pack to help Parish Councils "to better prepare their communities". It was agreed to donate the pack to Yeoford Community Hall. It was agreed to support an application for MDDC TAP funding by Colebrooke Parish Council towards improvements to Colebrooke Village Hall. MOORLAKE REPAIR The Assistant Engineer at Devon County Council has sent details of plans for essential engineering works to stabilise the carriageway at Moorlake in August 2014. Further concerns had been raised over Road Safety issues at the entrance to Yeoford. It was agreed to point out that the Authorities responded to statistics rather than the Supposition of Accidents occurring. It was pointed out that in an article in the Crediton Courier details were reported of an appeal for volunteers to help with the Crediton Speed Watch Scheme. Could this be extended to Yeoford and Venny Tedburn? It was agreed to ask whether the Parishioners in these locations, who were concerned over road safety issues and speeding, might be able to assist in a Speed Watch Scheme? MEET IN NEW HALL It was agreed to hold the October and December meetings of the Parish Council at the new Community Hall in Yeoford. The next meeting will take place on Monday, July 7 at the Council Chamber, Market Street, Crediton. MJV
