PUPILS and staff at Landscore Primary School dressed as their favourite book characters to celebrate World Book Day and paraded the catwalk to show off their outfits during assembly.

They dressed as a range of characters with lots of Where’s Wally, lots of Harry Potter characters, a Teaching Assistant dressed as the Queen from The Queen’s Knickers and a group of teachers dressed as Mr Men characters.

A Certificate and a bookmark were awarded for the best costumes and included Effiah Carr (Y1) as Veruca Salt from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Amelia Wood (Y2) as Matilda, Henri Webb (Y1/2) as Harry the Poisonous Centipede, Finlay Carr (Y3/4) as a Willy Wonka chocolate bar, Isla Sullivan (Y3/4) as a Harry Potter character, Ryan Stapleton (Y5/6) as Gangsta Granny and Ciaran Noon (Y5/6) as Newt Scamander from Fantastic Beasts.

In the afternoon time was set aside for “Share a story” where the teachers chose their favourite books to read aloud to pupils who had a choice of which stories they wanted to listen to. The books the staff read from included The Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl, The Bad Tempered Ladybird by Eric Carle, Billionaire Boy by David Walliams and Poo: A Natural History of the Unmentionable by Nicola Davies which proved very popular!

Landscore School has also launched a Book Swap in part of the library where children can take a book and swap it for another once they have read it.

Each child was given a book voucher to celebrate World Book Day.
