CHILDREN at Cheriton Fitzpaine Primary School have been learning Sign Language after school at the Hands Together Club, a British Sign Language (BSL) club.

The children have been learning to sign the words to the song “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.

This newly formed group of children aged between five and 11 years are enjoying learning about deaf awareness and deaf culture alongside some basic BSL.

Local tutor Lesley Rogers, who is teaching the children, recently ran four weekly taster sessions which raised money towards a blood pressure monitor for the Mid-Devon Medical Practice Patient Participation Group.

A recent Craft and Cake Morning in the village also raised funds for the monitor, bringing the sum raised so far to £655.

The village is also grateful to Binka, landlady of the “Ring of Bells” at Cheriton Fitzpaine who is donating 25p to the fund for every sticky toffee pudding ordered for the rest of 2022!

A regular, monthly Conversation Café with Lesley Rogers takes place at Thorne’s Farm Shop at Stockleigh Pomeroy on the first Tuesday of each month, from 3pm until 4.30pm. Anyone wishing to learn or develop BSL (British Sign Language), practice or use BSL as their first language is welcome to go along.
