THE President of Colebrooke WI, Valerie Pennington, welcomed members and one visitor to our September Meeting which was held at Colebrooke Parish Hall.

Members had enjoyed their outings to Bicton Gardens in July and Killerton House in August.

Our speaker for the evening was Dr Paul Cleave who spoke to us about his collection of Cookery Books and how they fit in with food and traditions. He read excerpts from various books including: • Good Things in England Book which was put together by Florence White in 1932 who felt we were losing our food traditions. Included in this book is a recipe for Revel Buns which were made by Sam Hook (a baker in Colebrooke) and was contributed by Mrs Pope from Copplestone.

• Book for Mothers’ Meetings by Mrs Crews-Sharland from Tiverton • Best Buy Book with advice on making food go further • Calendar of Cooking with recipes focussing on UK Seasonal Food to help farmers and encourage home cooking.

For our meeting in October Chloe Webber will be speaking to us about Gardening through the Seasons.

For further information, or if you would be interested in coming to any of our meetings, please contact Andrea Armstrong on 01363 84198. You will be given a warm welcome.
