THE fourth Copplestone Donkey Derby took place on a sunny Saturday in the grounds of Copplestone School.
A total of nine races were held during the afternoon with volunteer children riding the donkeys in each race.
Organised by Copplestone Parent Teacher Association, the Donkey Derby raised money for PTA funds for the benefit of pupils at the school.
In total, more than £1,600 was raised.
Races, donkeys and the jockeys were sponsored by local businesses or individuals. A race card was available and bets could be placed on each rider.
The races were great fun to watch and between races, children not taking part in the races were able to sit on the donkeys.
RES, the developer responsible for constructing Den Brook Wind Farm, between North Tawton and Bow, was a major sponsor of the event.
Besides the donkey derby the event also included zorbing, pottery painting, rat splatting and there were many stalls.
Peter Brauer of Copplestone PTA said: “Thanks to RES agreeing to sponsor our Donkey Derby we secured our best ever fundraising tally from the event. We are grateful to RES and all our other sponsors for allowing such a fantastic day to take place!”
Robert Kemeys, Den Brook’s project manager, said: “Copplestone PTA approached us for sponsorship of the Donkey Derby and we were pleased to contribute to the success of the day. We hope everyone enjoyed their day at the races!”
