UNFORGETTABLE motoring nostalgia and cavalcades of vehicles ranging from two wheels to 10 will be on offer at this year’s Historic Vehicle Gathering, which takes place at Powderham Castle, near Exeter, on Saturday, July 11 and Sunday, July 12.

Hosted by the Crash Box and Classic Car Club, this event attracts many classic vehicle enthusiasts from Crediton and Mid Devon, and brings together a motoring extravaganza of 1,500 vehicles to the castle’s scenic parkland.
Among the cars booked in from the Crediton area are father and son Dan and Yoshi Hedger, who have a shared love of the Volkswagen Scirocco. Dan’s 1986 example is actually his seventh Scirrocco which he purchased in 2016 with the intention of taking donor parts from.

However, on closer inspection he found it was too good to scrap, so instead decided to mechanically restore it and also rejuvenate its original Mars Red paintwork. Ten years on it is still going strong.
His son Yoshi’s 1989 example is one of the rarer special edition models finished in all-white, where the body styling parts, alloy wheels and even the seats were finished in Alpine White. Designed as a performance-orientated model with sporty looks, it will be one of the cars forming part of the Modern Classics display.
Crash Box Club Chairman Mike Overfield Collins said: “Whether showgoers’ interests are in steam power or petrol power, period classics or modern classics, there will be an eclectic display of vehicles to see and enjoy.”

The Historic Vehicle Gathering will be raising funds for the headline charities Dementia Friendly Honiton, Torbay Prostate Support Association and British Heart Foundation (Exeter branch).
To date the event has raised nearly £300,000 over the years for local and national charities.
