NEXT year marks the 75th anniversary of the Exeter Blitz of 1942 and to commemorate these events, Exeter’s Underground Passages plans to produce a short documentary about wartime Exeter and the night-time Baedeker raids the city suffered.

People who may have used the Underground Passages to shelter from the Blitz are being asked to help produce a short film.

Staff at the Passages are attempting to contact anyone who can remember Exeter during these years, particularly anyone who used the passages as an air-raid shelter.

They are hoping to conduct living memory interviews with anyone suitable as part of the project. These interviews will form the core of the documentary, as the people who lived through these tumultuous times recount their experiences.

“Everyone at the Underground Passages is very excited to be part of such an engaging project," said Councillor Rosie Denham, lead councillor for economy and tourism.

"Even after almost 75 years, the Baedeker raids continue to shape Exeter and it’s vitally important that these historically significant memories are preserved for future generations.”

Filming will take place throughout November and December.
