A CREDITON couple were delighted that their son Nicholas (Father Nilus), a monk in the ancient Monastery of Saint Catherine in Egypt, returned to join their other children, Jonathan and Jo, to join them to mark the occasion of their Diamond Wedding anniversary.
Roy and Mary Webber were married at Ashburton Parish Church on June 29 in 1957.
Mary was a nurse at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in Exeter and Roy was a corn merchant when they first met, introduced by a mutual friend.
Roy ran the family business Tucker’s Maltings at Newton Abbot and Tucker’s in Crediton, now known as Tucker’s Country Store, the latter now run by Roy and Mary’s eldest son Jonathan, the Maltings run by Jonathan’s son, Sam.
Mary and Roy have previously opened their garden at the family home in aid of charity and Mary has previously also supported Hospiscare.
A family party and meal out were enjoyed to mark the occasion of the wedding anniversary.
A card was also received from Her Majesty the Queen to mark the occasion about which they were both delighted.
