LAPFORD couple Peggy and Terry Woodison celebrated their Diamond Wedding anniversary on October 25.
They were married at All Saints Church, West Ham in the East End of London in 1958.
They met at a cinema where Terry was a projectionist, one of three jobs he held at that time and Peggy was a part-time usherette.
Terry did his National Service in the RAF and was stationed at Beachy Head, Eastbourne. After National Service he went to London.
For some time Terry worked behind the bar at West Ham and Arsenal football grounds and Peggy on the food counters.
Peggy worked in the office of the Margaret Fox blouse manufacturing company before joining Betterware in Romford, making brushes.
The couple then moved to Devon and have lived in Lapford for 35 years.
They have two sons, one of whom still lives at home and the other also locally.
They have three grandchildren.
Peggy and Terry enjoyed a celebration to mark the occasion at the Crediton Library meeting of Mid Devon InSight, which Peggy has been a member of for some time due to her failing eyesight.
The couple were treated to a cake, flowers, cards and received congratulations from Crediton Mayor, Cllr Frank Letch.
