DEVON County Council’s Waste Team has been shortlisted for a prestigious award in this year’s Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management.
The awards celebrate work that encourages and enables people to reduce, re-use and recycle waste, preventing it from going to landfill.
Devon is consistently one of the top three highest performing recycling counties, year-on-year.
The team does a lot to raise awareness of the importance of reducing, re-using and recycling, and has awarded more than 1,000 Recycle Devon Scout and Guide badges and reached more than 10,000 young people in schools across Devon.
Last year, they also worked with Community Action Groups to harness the amazing power of 16,079 volunteer hours and the re-use shops at the council’s Household Waste Recycling Centres saved 1,000 tonnes of waste from disposal.
The award winner will be announced at the awards ceremony in London on May 11 .
