THE Royal British Legion will once again be observing a two-minute silence on Armistice Day, which this year will be held on Monday, November 11.

This is a mark of respect and acknowledgement for the sacrifices made by others in order that we may enjoy the benefits of freedom in a democratic society.

Mid Devon District Council is pleased to join with representatives from the Royal British Legion in Crediton, Cullompton and Tiverton and to encourage people in the community to show their respect in observing the two-minute silence.

In Crediton, The Leader of Mid Devon District Council, Councillor Bob Deed, together with the Mayor of Crediton, Cllr Frank Letch and the Chairman of Crediton Hamlets Parish Council, George Mortimer and representatives of the Royal British Legion will join with others to observe the two minute silence at 11am at the War Memorial in the Union Road.

Councillor Deed will make the appropriate announcement before the start of the silence. Maroons will be set off at the commencement and end of the silence.

The Dedication of the Royal British Legion Garden of Remembrance at Crediton Parish Church took place during the very wet morning of Saturday, October 26.

Among those present was Crediton branch RBL chairman Pam Durrant, vice chairman John Higgs, treasurer Jane Sansom, Standard Bearer Mike May and Jane’s two dogs with a poppy badge on each collar.

There will be a stall with RBL merchandise at the Farmers’ Market at Crediton tomorrow, Saturday, November 2.

The main Service of Remembrance and the Parade from the Parish Church to the Crediton Town and Crediton Hamlets War Memorial will be on the morning of Sunday, November 10.

There will be a half-muffled peal rung for the 10am service on November 10.
