MARION Pollinger, Dementia Friends champion and award-winning trainer with the Alzheimer’s Society, gave a talk to the Crediton and Area branch of Devon Senior Voice about her work.

She also explained what dementia was, how it was diagnosed and the many ways we can all help sufferers to live more fulfilled lives in the community.

At the end of her talk she handed out information about becoming a Dementia Friend, which includes a variety of options of how people can become involved to help alleviate the misconceptions about this disease.

Marion praised the work being done in Devon by various groups, especially the local Crediton Dementia Action Alliance.

To quote from the Dementia Friends leaflet: “It’s possible to live well with dementia.”

Chair, Carole Towler, thanked her warmly for her talk, and during the following committee meeting, members agreed it had been a very informative and professional presentation.

The next meeting of the Crediton and Area branch will be between 2pm and 4pm on Wednesday, December 14, where we will welcome the Sandford Handbell Ringers to give a recital of some Christmas favourites and share some warm mince pies and clotted cream. All welcome.
