A WET and miserable evening did not deter members from attending the January meeting of Crediton Flower Club.
They enjoyed a delightful demonstration by Barbara Clatworthy from Coombe Martin with the intriguing title “Birds, Bees and Alfie Boe”.
Barbara’s skill with flowers was matched with her warmth and humour and a double treat lay in store as her arrangements were enhanced by musical accompaniment - the delightful voice of Alfie Boe.
Her first arrangement “Bees”, was portrayed brilliantly with yellow roses and soft ruscas arranged in a container sprayed black and yellow. A busy bee amongst the flowers completed the picture.
Next, Barbara used a tall metal stand to create a very impressive peacock using soft flowing ruscas and red spray carnations for the tail and red gerbaras and purple statice for the body. Very clever.
Beautiful avalanche roses and bouvadia were used in the next arrangement - a bouquet design.
The flowers were arranged on a metal CD stand, producing a stunning display. The choice of music for this design was “Some enchanted evening”.
Barbara described the next design as “whacky” and whacky it was with plaited palms, red gerberas, shamrock chrysanths and contorted willow arranged in a very bright green pipe cover for a container.
For this design Barbara played the lovely song “Forever Young”.
A pretty glass hummingbird formed part of the finale - a green and white arrangement with the container being a tall glass vase.
For this Barbara used dried agapanthus, avalanche roses and shamrock chyrsanths to create this stunning display.
On a very miserable night this wonderful demonstration left the audience feeling warm and relaxed with one member describing it as a “sheer delight”.
Mary Tasker gave a vote of thanks.
The next meeting on February 9 will be a “swop shop” DIY evening and will be held at the Boniface Centre at 7.15pm. Visitors and new members welcome.
