WITH the aid of his extensive slide collection Vaughan Gallavan was able to take Crediton Flower Club members on a “guided tour” of the beautiful Sherwood Garden at their meeting on a cold and wet January evening.
Vaughan worked for the Quicke family as their Head Gardener, joining them in 1980 until fairly recently when the property was sold.
Despite the fact that he now works at several other gardens, he can still be found at Sherwood on one day a week and his love for this particular place remains very apparent.
His picture of Sherwood throughout the year began with photographs he had taken on December 12 which had been one of those special bright, blue sky winter days.
Then pictures taken towards March and April featured a superb collection of different magnolias. Sherwood is actually famous for its National Collection of magnolia, deciduous azalea and berberis, but Vaughan had to confess that it was the magnolias that were his special favourite!
