A GATHERING for coffee and biscuits in Crediton’s Town Square was used by members of Crediton and District U3A to say thank you to the branch chairperson, David Agasee, who has recently stepped down.

David was unaware of the surprise presentation before it took place.

The committee wanted to show its appreciation to him in person.

David went along with his wife Pam, (who was in on the surprise), thinking he was just going to meet a couple of friends to be confronted with all of the U3A committee who wanted to demonstrate their respect and thanks by giving him a gift token.

Member Jo Poulton explained: “He was in post for three years and we shall miss him greatly. He had the ability to lead this important local organisation with grace, great organisational skills and humour!

“So now we do not have a Chair or Vice Chair and the local U3A may be in danger of crumbling away unless more people come forward to be on the committee.

“Anyone who is interested will meet a group of supportive, friendly individuals. We desperately need a new Chair - could that be you?

“Would you like to have input into this local important group? Please come forward for a chat to find out what is involved.

“David has offered to give a comprehensive induction.”

Membership is for the retired or semi-retired and the cost is just £12 per year.

Meetings have been held virtually in recent times with monthly meetings and quiz challenges via zoom.
