I READ with great interest the letter in last week’s "Courier" entitled "Worst Instance of littering near Crediton".

We have just returned from a holiday in Cyprus and, as I am a keen and regular litter picker "with" Mid Devon District Council (MDDC), I was keen to see if they had a litter problem there.

And, in some areas, they did.

Due to the very high temperatures and dry weather throughout the year in Cyprus litter poses a real fire risk.

The problem they have, like ours, is enforcement - even though there is a hefty litter fine in Cyprus of 800 Euros!

It seems that the "minority" ruin our countryside for the rest of us.

It is the same with dog mess, as reported in the same issue of the "Courier".

It is a real shame.

There is only one word for it - LAZINESS!
