CULMSTOCK Parish Council has applied to designate the parish of Culmstock as a Neighbourhood Area.

This is the eighth application Mid Devon District Council has received for a Neighbourhood Area designation since the Localism Act (2011) gave local communities the power to produce plans for their own areas.

The designation of the Neighbourhood Area will enable the parish council to prepare a neighbourhood plan for Culmstock parish.

The neighbourhood plan will be a community-led framework for guiding the future development and growth within the Neighbourhood Area.

It must conform to the strategic policies of the Mid Devon Local Plan, national planning policy and human rights legislation. Neighbourhood plans are also subject to public examination and referendum.

As a first step in the preparation of the plan, Culmstock Parish Council has submitted the boundary of Culmstock parish as the proposed boundary for the Neighbourhood Area.

Comments are invited about the suitability of the parish council’s proposed Neighbourhood Area boundary, by email to: [email protected] or by post/delivery to Forward Planning, Mid Devon District Council, Phoenix House, Phoenix Lane, Tiverton, EX16 6PP.

All representations must include the sender’s postal address or they will not be registered.

The deadline for representations is Monday, November 30, 2026.
