CREDITON’S third Dementia Awareness Day will take place in September.

The day will begin with a brief report on the work of the Crediton Dementia Action Alliance, which was begun in response a government initiative.

There will be speakers from a number of voluntary organisations which, in different ways, care for the elderly and others who need their help in and around Crediton.

The day will also include a talk from someone who cares for relative who is living with dementia.

Many stands will give information about aspects of care and support offered in our community.

The day is a free event and is open to anyone who would like to attend.

Last year a speaker, who herself has been diagnosed with early onset dementia, said: "you live with dementia, you do not suffer from it."

People may like to attend because dementia is a personal issue for them or because they would like to do their bit to make Crediton a town where those who live with dementia feel accepted and understood.

The event will take place at the Boniface Centre on Wednesday, September 7, and will be officially opened by the President of Crediton Rotary Club, Paul Evans, at 9.45am.

The doors will open at 9.15am to allow time to look at the information stalls and have a cup of coffee or tea.

A buffet lunch will be available at the subsidised price of £3.50, which needs to be booked advance.

There will be more time to look at the stalls before the event closes at 2 pm.

You can book for the day with Ron Cuthbertson on 01363 775502, or email: [email protected] .
