Weston Hornets 12

CREDITON started their season with a trek up the M5 to the home of the beach donkey, on a pristine pitch- long may it continue!

Crediton dominated the early phases and had points on the board within five minutes.

Simon Rendell did well to hold a kick from the Weston line, but was taken out in the fair. Josh Lee kicked the points.

Rendell was soon in the action, just failing to release Rob Somerwill, who found space inside, but the move continued with the team working the ball left for winger Nick Martin-Goff to touch down, Lee converting for a 10-0 lead.

Within minutes, the damage rose to 17-0, Rendell charging down a kick, and Lee going over for the points and converting.

The next try belonged to Callum Allen, storming through the Weston ranks from deep, from a five metre penalty.

With only half an hour elapsed, Crediton effectively put the game safe, when the ball was worked to Ben Wonnacott, whose storming run was supported by Martin-Goff, touching down in the corner.

At 27-0, Credy's scoring was done, and Weston scored two tries to make the final score 27-12, but all round this was a solid performance, the team putting into practice much of the good pre-season coaching from Chris Lee, Martin Phillips and John Allen.
