A CREDITON woman has raised hundreds of pounds for the charity, Alzheimer’s Society, in memory of her father.

Sue Allport, has worked at the Crediton Tesco store at Wellparks since it opened its doors in December 2009, nine-and-a-half years ago.

She previously worked for Debenhams in Exeter after starting at the store upon leaving Queen Elizabeth’s School in Crediton in 1987.

Sue’s father Cyril Ash, suffered from dementia and passed away in November 2017.

In his memory she held a raffle in the Tesco store on Thursday, June 13 and a tea party at her home on Saturday, June 15.

Sue told the “Courier”: “Having watched my adored Dad suffer from Dementia for approximately three years before he passed away in November 2017, I decided that I wanted to raise some much-needed funds to help support in the research of this awful disease.

“I approached my store manager at Tesco Superstore and he kindly donated a large number of raffle prizes for me to hold my raffle.

“This then progressed to a couple of events. The first was a raffle at the front of Tesco Superstore Crediton on Thursday, June 13 and a Tea Party at my home on Saturday, June 15.

“These dates coincided with what would have been my parents 61st wedding anniversary on Friday, June 14 and Father’s Day on Sunday, June 16.

“I had set myself the target of raising £500 across the two events, and I was delighted that I actually raised £579 in total.

“I was helped in both events by my close friend Jackie and without her help it would have not been such a huge success.

“I would also like to thank our friends that donated prizes and money, as well as everyone who purchased raffle tickets on both days.

“I was supported by donations for raffles prizes from a lot of local businesses in Crediton and some in Exeter and would like to thank the following: Tesco Superstore, Morrisons Crediton, The Red Deer, The General Sir Redvers Buller (Wetherspoons) Crediton, Mole Avon, Tucker’s Country Stores, Adams Home Hardware, Downes Crediton Golf Club, Costa Crediton, Candimama Crediton, Helmores, Lewis’s, Melanie Rice of Crediton, Smarter Accounting, Boka, Grape and Grain, The Devon Bed Centre Exeter, Sainsbury’s Alphington Road Exeter and Cafe Rouge Exeter.”

Sue added thanks to all who supported the raffle and attended her tea party.
