A TOUR of Exeter’s Historic Quayside organised by Paul Evans proved to be very successful as well as informative for the 18 Crediton Twinning Association members who took part.
The guide, Exeter Red Coat Michael Richards, gave the group a very enjoyable evening with lots of historical facts, particularly relating to the Woollen Cloth Industry which brought prosperity to the City in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries.
The river Exe and the Exeter canal had an important involvement with the trade providing important transport links with other countries.
In the 1971 television series “The Onedin Line” was filmed a lot on the Quay (even if it was supposed to be Liverpool).
The tour ended with a visit to the Custom House which contains some very interesting exhibits.
Michael was thanked by Association Chairman Jenni Pitts and given a cheque for £108, payable to Hospiscare, his chosen charity.
