WHEN Crediton Town Team holds its Annual General Meeting next month, it will share its exciting plans for CredFest19, as well as provide updates on the other community projects it has supported in the past year.

The Town Team is a group of volunteers who first came together to organise the 2013 Crediton Festival.

This proved so successful that, with the help of funds from Mid Devon District Council, the group decided to extend its work to other projects that would make Crediton a more vibrant and enjoyable place to live.

Not only did the Team organise CredFest15 and last summer’s CredFest17, but over the past five years it has contributed to many other schemes.

Perhaps the most visible of these is the High Street Flags, which for the sixth time decorated the town centre last summer.

There are now 75 flags, all hand-made, in brightly coloured ripstop nylon, and individually designed by shopkeepers or community groups with the help of local artist Charlotte Turner.

These not only liven up the High Street for local residents, but they impress and intrigue visitors, encouraging them to spend a little longer exploring our town.

The Town Team also hopes to bring more people to Crediton by promoting its significance as the birthplace of St Boniface. This year the Team has focused its efforts on fundraising to create a Boniface Heritage Trail, consisting of eight glass panels to be installed at key locations around the town telling the story of St Boniface’s life.

The panels, designed by flag artist Charlotte Turner, are inspired by the Boniface stained glass windows in the Parish Church.

As well as running its own projects, the Town Team is always keen to support initiatives by other people and groups.

For example, it has raised funds to buy bikes and trailers for the Active Mums Cycling Project, which organises regular bike trips for young mums and their babies, enabling them to socialise and get fit at the same time.

It has also helped to secure funding for “Get Out”, a monthly listings of cultural events in the EX17 area compiled by Crediton resident Andrew Vaccari.

Started in 2014 as an online publication, this year Andrew teamed up with the “Courier”, which now publishes the “Get Out” listings every month, enabling it to reach a much wider audience.

The Town Team is particularly keen to support health initiatives and has been working with local resident Tony Gale and Involve, Mid Devon’s Voluntary Service Council, to set up Well-being Crediton.

This is a “social prescribing” service which will help people improve their health by accessing appropriate advice and activities rather than medication.

At the AGM, the Town Team will also be reporting on significant developments with its most ambitious project to create a new Community Hub for the town.

In July a new group of trustees was appointed, with the skills and enthusiasm, to take this project onto the next phase.

To find out more about what your Town Team is up to, do go along to the AGM on Thursday, December 6, in the Meadow Suite, (next to Lords Meadow Leisure Centre) at 7.30pm.

There will be a free glass of mulled wine to welcome you and a chance to tell the Team what you think. Everyone is welcome.
