A FLAG-raising ceremony in support of Armed Forces Day took place at the Council offices, Market Street, Crediton, on Monday, June 20.
Armed Forces Day takes place tomorrow, Saturday, June 25 and is a day when the whole nation is invited to show support for our military community, both serving and retired, at home and abroad.
Crediton Town Council flies the Armed Forces flag for the duration of the week leading up to Armed Forces Day, from the Council offices, by kind permission of Mid Devon District Council.
The Mayor of Crediton, Cllr Frank Letch, said he always enjoyed meeting the veterans who attended the flag raising ceremony outside the Council offices and that it was comforting to know that the council supported those who had served or are serving.
He said that his father was among those who had served.
Mr Letch added: “It is sad that this country has to spend so much money on defence when it could be used for so much else such as helping those in poverty or be spent in the health service.”
John Shaw, chairman, Crediton branch of the Royal British Legion, paid tribute to those who had served or are currently serving in the Forces.
He added: “I would like to thank Crediton Town Council for their support, and thank the members of the Crediton branch of the Royal British Legion who have come together here today.”
