AT A Crediton Town Band rehearsal on the evening of Wednesday, January 24, the musical director Chris Richards was very pleased to present John Musty, Chairman of Trustees of Age Concern Crediton & District, with a cheque for £700.

The cheque was the result of the proceeds raised at the Crediton Community Carols in the Square, which took place on the evening of Thursday, December 21.

John was delighted and explained: "This cheque will go towards the completion of the refurbished kitchen at the Deep Lane Centre.

"This will enable us to entertain even more guests and balance the books better.

"It’s a fantastic amount of money."

The band would like to thank the Crediton Boniface Rotary Club who provided the refreshments, Crediton Lions Club who collected donations at the request of the Town Band and the numerous people who worked so hard to make the event a success.

The band would also like to thank the Crediton area community for turning up in such large numbers to make the evening such a success. Also for their generosity in raising such a wonderful amount for Age Concern.

This was truly a family occasion which certainly brought the spirit of Christmas to the town.

The band are now working towards this year’s event which will take place on Thursday, December 20, from 7pm to 8pm.

The Town band also recognised the hard work put in by Arthur Arscott who was the main co-ordinator of the carol singing event.
