CREDITON Town Band’s Spring Concert, held at Crediton Methodist Church on Saturday, April 9, raised the staggering amount of £1,061.94, in aid of the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

The band played a full programme of music to a near full-house audience.

The evening began with the National Anthem and Fanfare and the National Anthem of Ukraine.

It was particularly poignant as among the audience was Crediton’s first Ukrainian refugee as well as Crediton Town Councillor Natalia Letch, who is of Russian descent and is married to County Councillor Frank Letch.

The concert included four soloists, Muriel Power (euphonium), who played “Rondo”, Mark Rottenbury (soprano cornet), who played “Flowerdale”, plus Musical Director Colin Crossman and James Cookson, who dueted, both on violin, to the “Ashokan Farewell”.

The musical programme included various pieces not only for Springtime but also from all parts of the United Kingdom.

This included: “Men of Harlech”, “Melodies of Britain”, “All in the April Evening”, “Dunsford Meadow”, “North Country Pastorale”, “Highland Cathedral”, “Calling Cornwall”, “May Dance”, “Let’s Face the Music and Dance” and “Lovely Jubilee”.

The Band would like to thank most sincerely the community of Crediton and District for their “overwhelming generosity” with their donations for the appeal.

Band members were unanimous in agreeing that the funds went to the Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
