EACH year it seems more people go to the War Memorial on Union Road in Crediton for the Acts of Remembrance both on November 11 and the Sunday service.

This year again it seemed more than usual. It was certainly colder than usual with a shower of rain causing even more shivers.

The wreath laying followed the service held in the parish church. Standard Bearers and wreath layers walked in procession from the church, followed by nearly the whole congregation to the War Memorial where Crediton Town Band played.

The band again accompanied the procession as it moved off after the ceremony to disperse from the town square.

At the Crediton Town and Hamlets War Memorial, prayers were led by the Rector of Crediton Preb Nigel Guthrie with Lloyd Smale of the Methodist Church.

More than 30 wreaths were laid including the Citizens’ wreath filled with poppies for all those unable to get to the War Memorial.

There were several individual wreaths among all those from town organisations. These included the QE Boarders and Staff and another from the Staff and Students of QES.

A few wreaths were in memory of those who died in World War One, others for those who fell in more recent conflicts. There was also the hand-made wreath from Pippins Pre-School.
