Crediton youngsters capture happiness in nature for Rotary competition

THE Rotary Young Photographer of the Year competition is an annual contest for young people up to age 17.

The 2026 competition challenged participants to interpret the theme “Happiness in Nature” across Junior (10 and under), Intermediate (11 to 13 years) and Senior (14 to 17 years) age groups.

The winners of the local round receive a £25 voucher and all receive a certificate of participation.

The local winners progress to the South West District competition and the winners at this level progress to the National Final.

Rotary members in Crediton are keen to support and encourage young people and this competition allows those with a phone to compete at the highest level of photographic ability.

Crediton Boniface Rotary have organised the competition locally over many years and several schools and youth organisations have taken part.

The 2026 local winners were Harry Read (Junior), Wren Weedon (Intermediate) and Violet Dunlop (Senior) who all went on and were runners up in the District competition.

In the 2025 competition, when the theme was “Wonderful Water”, Radu Mototolea (Intermediate, QE School) and Elsie Dunning (Junior, Tedburn St Mary) both won the District round and were entered into the National competition.

The entries were not placed at National level but the judges sent a letter of congratulation and certificate to Elsie and Radu.

The theme for the 2026/27 competition is “Friendship” and entries have to be in by January 30, 2027 so young people should get their cameras and phones out and get snapping! Photographic entries must be accompanied by a competition entry form and can be emailed to [email protected].
