A CREDITON road was closed to traffic today, Sunday, July 22, after a hole appeared in the highway.

Market Street, which runs from the High Street to Parliament Street, was closed by Devon County Council staff at about noon after reports that a hole was developing.

The hole is about one foot by two feet across and descends more than three feet.

It is unknown if it is a collapsed drain or more serious incident.

The road is expected to remain closed until the repair has been completed.
