A MUSICAL Extravaganza held at Crediton Congregational Church on Saturday, September 7, raised a considerable sum of money for the charity, Save the Children.
A warm welcome was given to everyone and those who attended enjoyed a varied selection of music and comedy.
Paddy Dornom played them in with a range of songs from the shows, then Cathie Poole, a very accomplished singer, gave the audience a delightful taste of the 1920’s with “Thoroughly Modern Millie”.
Polly Crumby, a talented teenager, reminded everyone of the war years and James Gregory, with his family, gave everyone a feeling of the Von Trapps with the children.
Taken to the Cleaners amused the audience with their sketch.
Buffy May, a well-known lead from CODS, gave a lovely rendering of “Bridge Over Trouble Water”.
The AdHoc singing group were brilliant with “Flanders and Swan” unaccompanied and the whole performance was clever and very entertaining.
Jason Bomford, again a well-known artiste, gave a performance to remember. There were further selections from the artists but the finale was Jim Causley, a Professional Folk Singer. He gave a performance to remember. He sang his own compositions written for Devon and St Boniface, with other popular songs.
Compere for the evening was Richard Ward and also taking part were Piers Howell, with musical accompaniment for some of the singers by Allan Fouracre.
Fantastic support was received from sponsors and donors including Ashgrove Kitchens, Courtney’s Garage, Edwin Tucker, Hedgerow Print, Helmores, Ladd’s Computers, Lewis’s Electrical, Morrisons, Kitchen@25, MCA Windows, Crediton Garden Centre, Tesco, Veitch Penny Solicitors and numerous personal donations.
Marion Nosworthy provided the audience with a feast to enjoy. Tesco provided refreshments for the entertainers.
The four organisers, Paddy Dornom, Judy Tucker, Jenny Berg and Jan Hadley, thank all who supported the event on behalf of Save the Children.
Paddy Dornom said: “It was a fabulous evening and enabled us to raise £900 on the night, which, with the sponsorship and donations should clear £1,500 for this worthwhile charity. Thank you all so much.”
