CREDITON Methodist Church was opened on April 28, 1892. A contemporary report of the period says “the weather was everything that could be desired.’’

Over the weekend of April 27 and 28, 2018 the Church celebrated its 126th Anniversary. Well there seems to have been a change in the weather - Saturday was wet and Sunday quite cold. However, this did not dampen the atmosphere inside the Church.

Saturday saw a Day of Prayer from 10am to 4pm with well over a dozen prayer stations depicting various aspects of the life of the Church and a Prayer Tree allowing people to pray personally for various work of the Church and community.

Saturday evening saw the Social Group watch the film “Victoria and Abdul”. Abdul became a servant in 1887 at Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee, so the story was obviously current when the Church was opened.

The Sunday morning service saw a large congregation at the anniversary service which was led by Mr Lloyd Smale, a Local Preacher and member of the Church. This was followed by a delicious lunch served to more than 40 people by Mrs Gill Sutton and helpers.

For more than seven years plans have been made to refurbish the Church and make it fit for the 21st century. It is hoped to be in a position to go out to tender shortly and that building work might commence by the beginning of 2019.

For more than 126 years Crediton Methodist Church has been Working out God’s love in Crediton. With the proposed refurbishment it is hoped that it will continue to do just that for another 126 years.
