Crediton mental health open evening success

IT was “Time to talk about Mental Health” at Chiddenbrook Surgery on February 28 – the day before Storm Emma arrived!

The surgery League of Friends hosted the Open Evening on mental health.

Despite the cold and promise of snow, there was excellent attendance by all ages and great audience participation.

Dr Griffiths explained how the League of Friends had been supportive of this opportunity to publicise the work done by the mental health practitioners who work either alongside the surgery, or within Crediton.

Juliet Phillips gave us an insight into Young People’s Mental health issues, and how the school nursing team can support school-aged children and their families.

Next, Laurel Clarke spoke about the different methods of Counselling available and how these can be tailored to the needs of the individual.

Finally Tim Lavelle, and his colleague from the Depression and Anxiety service, spoke about their work, and Tim gave us a practical introduction to Mindfulness. This was a lovely relaxed end to the presentations!

We then had the opportunity for questions and suggestions, to enable the surgery to find out what can be done to help and inform people who need more information around this subject.

Thank you to everyone who attended – we will endeavour to follow up on the suggestions made.

It is clear we live in a very caring and thoughtful community, where people are keen to help themselves and others as best they can.

The refreshments were provided by SJ Willis and Sons.
