A MAN from Crediton has appeared in court accused of stealing safes from a charity shop and a church in the town.

Martin Way pleaded not guilty to two counts of burglary when he appeared at Exeter Crown Court.

Way (38), of Station Yard, Crediton, is accused of breaking into the Exeter Leukaemia Fund shop in Crediton High Street between January 14 and 17 last year and stealing a safe.

He is also accused of stealing another safe in a burglary at the Holy Cross Parish Church in Church Street, Crediton, on February 3, 2020.

Judge David Evans adjourned the case for three weeks to enable Way to have further discussions with defence barrister Miss Kelly Scrivener and released him on bail.
