HAVING embarked on an ambitious fundraising drive each year for many years using 20 giant Easter Eggs, Crediton Lions Club was stopped in its tracks to raise funds by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Many of the eggs had already been placed with host businesses, pubs and clubs in the Crediton area, and Lions were meant to have been selling tickets at Crediton’s Morrisons store in the run up to Easter.

This has obviously had to be cancelled.

As a result, Crediton Lions donated eight eggs to Care homes and others in the community.

Lion Eric Parkes, Crediton Lions fundraising and activities chairman, said: "We are pleased to provide eggs for those at the forefront of the challenges we are all facing.

"Eggs will be going to our local GP practices, the ‘Posties’ at the Crediton Sorting Office, and our firefighters.

"In addition eggs will be going to Crediton Age Concern as well as Hillbrow, Kenwyn and Summerhayes Care homes.

"There has been quite an amazing response from those who have seen the size of the eggs."

Lion Peter Bryan, President, said: "In the absence of funds being generated it is entirely appropriate that the eggs go to recognise service in the community and to those in need."

He went on to say: "It looks like our Summer Quiz will also have to be abandoned but when this is all over, we shall be able to get to work again helping where we can, supporting organisations and charities, providing guidance of the prevention of loss of sight, collecting old spectacles for re-use and providing the vulnerable with our ’Message in a Bottle’ service."

Lions Clubs are a world-wide organisation, founded more than 100 years ago and which now provides humanitarian services through the Lions Clubs in almost all of the countries in the world.

The sum of £100,000 has made available in Great Britain to support Lions local projects at this time.

Crediton Lions hope to be able to tap into this fund.
