TWO Crediton Liberal Democrat councillors will this evening (Wednesday) submit amendments to Mid Devon District Council’s full council meeting (6pm) concerning budget issues.
Amendment one, being proposed by district councillor Nick Way, is that the council re-instate the full MDDC council office service at Crediton, including the retention of the counter service the council is due to close on April 1.
The second amendment is that car parking fees remain as they currently are and not as proposed by the council.
Currently car parking in some council car parks is available at £1 for five hours and MDDC is proposing to change the charges to £2 for up to 10 hours.
Cllr Nick Way said that it was unfair that MDDC pays for the provision at Tiverton of a Centre Manager and a Market Manager and he is suggesting that these posts are abolished and the money used to offset the car parking fees.
He said the payment was “unfair” to towns like Crediton and Cullompton as these towns were not afforded such paid posts.
District Cllr Bob Wright of Crediton is seconding the amendments Cllr Way is proposing.
The Conservative-controlled district council says that it is making the changes due to budget cuts.
