ARMED police, trained negotiators and dog units were called to an address in Charlotte Street in Crediton late on Saturday, February 25 and remained there into the early hours of the following morning.
A man at a property was throwing contents from his home into the street and approaching the front door with a knife.
Police negotiators talked to the man and at about 2am he came out of the house and was taken into custody.
He was arrested for possession of an offensive weapon and criminal damage.
Officers confirmed on Sunday, February 26, that the man was being assessed.
On Wednesday, March 1, police confirmed that the man had been remanded in custody awaiting an appearance at a Crown Court later this month.
