CREDITON Town Council, along with Crediton Arts Centre and the Town Team, have created an exciting calendar of events to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee extended bank holiday weekend from Thursday, June 2 to Sunday, June 5.

The Thursday will see the celebrations start with a proclamation from the Town Crier along with an artist-led flag making workshop and crafts on the Town Square.

The beacon lighting will be held in line with the national programme of events at 9.15pm at Beacon Park.

Friday will be host to Crediton Town Band playing some classic British songs, where local care home residents have been invited to attend and enjoy a cream tea and a sing-a-long.  This event will be open for all to attend and enjoy.

Saturday, June 4 will be a day of family fun with a Fun Day in Newcombes Meadow from 11am-3pm with bouncy castles, face painting and circus skills workshops for all to enjoy along with some refreshment stalls to keep everyone going!

Newcombes Meadow will then be host to an evening Open Air Film Screening (film to be announced in the coming weeks), which has previously been a popular event with a wonderful atmosphere.

The celebrations on Sunday, June 5 (which is also Devon Day) will start with the story of St Boniface, the Patron Saint of Devon, accompanied by activities and music.

The Town Square will then join with the national celebrations of the Big Sunday Lunch at 1pm!

There will be tables and chairs, food stalls and a hog roast but, of course, everyone is welcome to take along a picnic and soak up the atmosphere with friends and family.

It promises to be a music and entertainment filled afternoon featuring Crediton Youth Orchestra, the Decibelles, Sandford Sings and The Beatnxs.

There will also be fancy dress and the distribution of a commemorative gift for the children by the Town Mayor.

All events are FREE and open to everyone, so please go along and join the celebrations.

A full list of timings for the events will follow in the coming weeks.

Updates can be found on the Crediton Town Council event page on Facebook and in the “Courier” and on the “Courier” social media sites.

Crediton Town Council Projects Officer Lisa Blake said: “We are so thrilled to be able to put together some fantastic activities and events for a wonderful occasion.
