MAGGI Orasnjak of Crediton was going to do a wing walk to raise funds for Hospiscare but because of bad weather over the last few months, she has not been able to do so.

So she opted for a sky dive instead on September 18 from Dunkeswell Airfield near Honiton, raising £1,834.

“At last I did it!” she cheered adding that the total raised so far was “mind-blowing” with huge thanks to everyone who helped her get there.

Maggi thanks everyone who supported her, especially the local plumbing and heating firm of N A Guppy Limited, who donated £1,000.

Maggi said she jumped as a tandem, strapped to someone else.

“We were three miles up, 15,000 feet. It takes six seconds to drop 10,000 feet. There were eight of us in the plane, some were experienced sky divers.

“I was given a light boiler suit, a jump suit, and wearing goggles. It was wonderful when the man with me pulled the cord for the parachute and we were floating, I began to relax a bit and to look around,” said Maggi.

Handing over the cheque, Charles Guppy said the firm had done a project with ITV when a part of the condition was to give a donation to a local charity. The company donated £4,000 to Devon Air Ambulance via the Simon Brassington Appeal, then heard what Maggi was doing for Hospiscare.

Simon is the son of Copplestone man David Brassington who was twice helped by DAA.
