THE Boniface Centre will be turned into the Fashion Capital of Devon for one night only on Friday, April 13.
Crediton Tesco, Mole Avon Town and Country Stores and The Turning Tides Project will be displaying their wares down the catwalk and, at the same time, raising funds for Hospiscare and a Crediton Tesco Community Project in conjunction with The Turning Tides Project themselves.
The Fashion Show will highlight the new Spring range of Tesco F and F clothing, a range of branded items from Mole Avon Town and Country Stores and hand-made and up-cycled accessories from The Turning Tides Project.
The show will feature both adult and children’s clothes and will start at 7pm, with the show commencing from 7.30pm.
As well as the Fashion Show itself, the event will feature a fantastic raffle, a licensed bar, a musical set from The Turning Tides Project and a range of local traders selling such items as jewellery and hand-made decoration pieces.
Andrew Drayton, the Community Champion from Tesco Crediton, said: “This should be a really fun evening, we wanted to broaden out the usual Fashion Show concept and by highlighting both adult and children’s clothing we are making the event accessible for anyone to come along and see something that they can then easily purchase after the show.”
Lauren Cook, Marketing and Events Executive at Mole Avon Country Stores, was also happy to support the event, adding: “After great success following last year’s Hospiscare Fashion Show held at Colebrooke, we are delighted to be part of Crediton’s this year.
“On the evening we will be showcasing a range of our ladieswear, menswear and childrenswear clothing from Joules, Barbour, Lazy Jacks and Jack Murphy. We look forward to welcoming you all on the evening and in the near future at your new Mole Avon Country Stores opening in Autumn 2018.”
Dominic Palfreman, company manager for The Turning Tides Project explained what it is that the organisation does: “The Turning Tides Project believes that everyone has the right to equal access to music, the arts and life. We intend to make this right a reality for people with ’learning disability’ or ’autism’ labels in Devon. We are a Community Interest Company; a non-profit organisation and our focus is on the work that we do and the difference that we make.”?Dominic continued: “The Turning Tides Project takes a social model approach. The Social Model of Disability is a way of understanding the lives of Disabled People. A Disabled Person is someone who is excluded from the everyday world because of something that is considered ‘different’ about how their mind or body or both work. The Social Model of Disability says to stop looking at the individual that is ‘different’, instead look at the barriers and problems that surround them. Fix the world to make it more accessible, and tackle discrimination.”
Amongst their many Music, Art, Media, Technology and Sports projects The Turning Tides Project is working with Tesco Crediton to develop an approach and tools for the store to make it as accessible as possible to the local population. This Project is #Inclusive, and will be created by people with and without learning disability labels - #TurningTescoInclusive”
Rebecca Botfield, a Community Fundraiser for Hospiscare stated: “Hospiscare is a local charity and we rely on local support to keep our services going and there are so many ways in which the donations can be spent. For example; £9 – complimentary therapy oil, for one of our volunteer therapists, £15 – to purchase a fleece blanket for one of our patients on the ward, £18 – to cover an hour of care from a nurse on the ward, £58 – to cover a two-hour assessment visit from one of our community nurse specialists.”
Rebecca continued: “We are delighted to be involved and supported by this Crediton fashion show, especially after the success of the show in Colebrooke last year. It is going to be a fun-filled evening and proceeds will go a long way to support our patients in Exeter, East and Mid Devon. We are looking forward to the evening.”
Tickets for the show are priced at £7 and can be purchased from; Customer Services at Tesco Superstore, Mole Avon Town and Country Store and the Hospiscare Crediton Shop. Each ticket is numbered and will be entered for a Prize Draw on the night for a £50 Tesco Gift Card.
Andrew finished by saying: “I must add special thanks to Steph Firth and Jan Simpson who have been magnificent in getting the show put together, working tirelessly to ensure a brilliant event. Everyone on the night has volunteered which shows again the fantastic community spirit that exists in and around Crediton.
“The backdrops for decoration have been created by Pippins, Leapfrogs and Earlybirds Nurseries - for which we thank them very much. It should be a really fun atmosphere on the night with a music set by The Turning Tides Project, a licensed bar and snacks available, a brilliant raffle and the ticket prize draw.
“We hope that everyone that comes along has a great time and that we can raise some funds for two organisations that contribute greatly to the Crediton Community.”
