ONCE again charging for parking on Crediton High Street is “being looked at”.
A consultation is going to be held by Devon County Council, as well as looking at bus routes for ways to improve that service.
Devon County Councillor Frank Letch said this at the January meeting of Crediton Hamlets Parish Council held in Yeoford.
Councillors commented that charging for parking on Crediton High Street would “push people away” and would encourage more to go to the supermarkets where there was free parking.
There was also discussion about bus provision and he was told that Yeoford only had two buses a week.
He said the population of Tiverton was three times that of Crediton but had 30 more buses than Crediton.
Explaining that on-street parking was the county council remit and parking enforcement officers were from the county council, Cllr Letch said: “You can ask for a timetable for the parking enforcement officers.
“When we were hammered that time by people parking on the High Street on a Bank Holiday, I asked for a Freedom of Information and the only towns they went to were Crediton and Cullompton, not Tiverton,” he said.
“Why book people for parking on loading bays on Bank Holidays when there are no shops open?” he asked.
