CREDITON Foodbank and Support Hub is inviting applications from local people who want to make a real difference in their community by joining its Board of Trustees.
The Foodbank, which supports individuals and families in crisis across Crediton and the surrounding area, has been part of the local community since 2011. Entirely community-funded, it relies on the generosity of local people, churches, schools, and businesses to keep its shelves stocked and its doors open.
Every week, volunteers provide emergency food parcels and essential support to those facing financial hardship, helping people get back on their feet when times are tough.
“We’re looking for people who are passionate about supporting others and who want to be part of something that really makes a difference,” said Mel Gard, Communications Trustee.
“As a trustee, you’ll help shape the future of Crediton Foodbank and Support Hub, guiding our strategy, making key decisions, and ensuring we remain a trusted, sustainable service for the people who need us most.”
Trustees oversee the direction and governance of the charity, making sure it continues to operate effectively, ethically, and in line with its values.
The role involves attending regular meetings, contributing to strategic planning, and supporting the small but dedicated volunteer team that manages day-to-day operations.
The Foodbank is particularly keen to hear from individuals with experience in areas such as charity management, governance, finance, communications, or the voluntary sector.
However, enthusiasm and commitment are equally important. Previous board experience is welcome but not essential - what matters most is a willingness to learn and a desire to contribute to the community.
Current trustee Rachel explained: “Being a trustee has been incredibly rewarding. You get to see first-hand the impact the Foodbank has - from the relief on someone’s face when they receive help, to the gratitude of families who know they’re not alone. It’s a small charity with a big heart, and being part of that feels really special.”
Crediton Foodbank and Support Hub continues to see high demand for its services as the cost of living continues to affect local families.
The board’s focus for the coming year will be on ensuring long-term sustainability, strengthening community partnerships, and developing new ways to meet the needs of those who rely on the Foodbank through their new Pantry initiative.
“We know our work is only possible because of the incredible support of our community,” added Mel. “As a trustee, you’ll be helping to protect and grow that community resource for the future.”
This is a voluntary role, but one that offers a chance to make a real difference and to be part of a committed and compassionate team.
Full training and induction will be provided, and the board welcomes expressions of interest from people of all backgrounds.
