MEMBERS of Crediton Flower Club visited Venn Cross Engine House Garden near Taunton in June.
Venn Cross is part of the National Gardens’ Scheme which opens on certain days for charity.
In spite of the sudden onset of wind and rain on their arrival, members were not dismayed and, with the weather gradually improving, enjoyed looking around the beautiful garden - a former GWT Goods Yard with four acres of formal and less formal gardens which were of interest to gardeners and “rail-buffs” alike.
Areas of mass planted candelabra primulas, together with large sweeping herbaceous borders produced stunning displays.
The orchid rich wildflower meadow was particularly delightful.
Afterwards members enjoyed a most welcome cup of tea/coffee - not forgetting the delicious home-made cakes!
The next meeting of the Flower Club will take place on Thursday, July 12 at 7.15pm at the Boniface Centre and will be a demonstration by Alison Penno entitled “Summer Scentsations”.
Visitors and new members welcome.
