CREDITON couple, Arthur and Jean Turner, who live in Longmeadows, will celebrate their Diamond wedding anniversary next week.

Married at Crediton Parish Church on August 23, 1958, they spent their honeymoon in London.

Jean (79) was born in Crediton and the couple met at a dance at Copplestone.

Jean attended Hayward’s School and after leaving school learned shorthand/typing from a Mrs Salter at Barnfield, later working in the office at the NHS in Exeter.

Arthur (86) came from Meeth, near Hatherleigh and was in the RAF on National Service when he met Jean.

He did his apprenticeship as a plumber with A White and Son’s, builders.

Later he worked for Eakers before working for himself until he was 72, then part-time for the last few years.

Arthur is a keen member of Crediton Bowling Club and also plays skittles for the Livewires, plus he is a keen gardener and grows beautiful fuschias.

Jean later worked for 32 years at Queen Elizabeth Community College as an assistant in the Food Technology Department which she said she really loved.

Jean is also a dedicated member of Crediton WI and plays skittles for their team, The Kirtonians.

The couple have daughters, Clare and Hannah, and two son-in-laws, Stephen and Neil. They have four grandchildren (two boys and two girls).

The couple will celebrate their special day with a celebration dinner with all the family including all the grandchildren.

They love travel and will soon be off on a special holiday in Sorrento.

They both agree they’ve worked at their marriage, always making up, which has been a good recipe for 60 very happy years. They are still very much in love and also the best of friends.
