CREDITON Bowling Club took part in Bowls England Bowls’ Big Weekend, hosting an open “have-a-go” event on Sunday, May 25.

About 50 people ranging in age from 10 months old to 80 plus attended.

Fixture Secretary Sue Hendy explained: “It has been a a great communal social thing to do.

“Lots of people came to enjoy a taster session to get a feel for playing bowls and nearly 30 of the 90 club members came along to help them out by giving free advice and coaching.

“More than 800 clubs nationally have taken part in the initiative this weekend.

“We hope that some will become members and for new members we offer the first year of membership at half price.
